Hello Alison,
Thank you for Friday, it was great to be on a course that was so practical and hands-on. It was so useful to see the rabbits and appreciate how large they were. It was very helpful to see you handling the rabbits and to see the best way to pick them up. My main reason for coming on the course was to make sure I could kill them before I commit to buying them.
I sat and read the book when I got home. I think you’ve got a great style of writing, it was very enjoyable to read and very clear. The large number of photographs really helped too. I thought the section on the economics of raising meat rabbits was especially useful, too many books and magazine articles just seem to gloss over this so it was great to have actual facts and figures.

Boar for Hire

Boris is a heavily spotted Gloucester Old Spot. I have had him since he was 8 weeks old and know him well. He is a very patient and gentle boar and excellent with the younger pigs at any age. The little ones can get in to see him and often settle in with him for a snooze or to share his food.
He is proven and keen on his job! Boris knows his name and will come when he is called, especially if you are holding a bucket of food.
He is a very big, heavy pig so you will need a strong trailer if you are going to collect him. You will also need strong accomodation as he does not mean to cause any destruction; he just needs to have a good scratch on a fence post now and again.
Boris can be hired out for £25 per sow.

About Smallholding Skills

We have developed a number of courses over the years relating to the livestock we keep here and to general skills we think are useful, such as the Sewing Machine and Knife Skills Courses. This site brings all the courses together, but because they are on our other sites as well, there is one central Course Manager database so the top tab is called Courses. It should read Course Dates for this site and you will find all the course dates, times and locations there.
Have a look at what we offer and we very much look forward to meeting you soon on one of our courses.
Birthdays and Christmas!
We are very happy to provide vouchers for all our courses and we personalise them as much as possible. The voucher can be left open dated for an allocated course that can be booked by the recipient for a date to suit them, or they can be made for a specific date if that is better. It is up to you!
You can either book a course through the website and then tell us it is a gift when we email to confirm the booking, email us from the Contact at the bottom of the page, or simply send a cheque for the course, payable to Hook Farm, to the address at the top right corner of the page.
